With Apple’s Inter-Device Audio and MIDI, you can set up your system to record digital audio from an iOS/iPadOS device and exchange MIDI data.

Inter-Device Audio and MIDI (IDAM for short) allows you to record digital audio signals from an iOS device without using special cables or an audio interface. This allows MIDI messages to be transmitted between an iOS device and macOS, for example to control plug-ins.

You enable these features by connecting an iOS device to your Mac using a Lightning cable and enabling IDAM in the Audio MIDI Setup.
